“In a society that profits from your self doubt, liking yourself is a rebellious act.”

Our History

Wise Wanderings has been a personal project that I’ve wanted to start for some time now. The web is saturated with travel blogs everywhere we look; however, every person’s travel or “way of travel” is different and unique. I consider myself a pretty thorough planner when it comes to traveling. I create in-depth itineraries after countless hours of research. However, like clockwork something always goes off course or wrong, so you have to roll with the punches. I aim to give you a taste for all phases of our journeys: the planning – the things that went perfectly – and the things we did wrong. I’m a firm believer in learning from other people’s mistakes so hopefully you can do that from mine!

As I obviously couldn’t travel during the pandemic, I started getting more serious about creating this travel blog. During quarantine I began drafting up blog posts about our past travels. I had been fortunate enough to already visit multiple countries & do a USA cross-country road-trip hitting all but three of the continental states. As a result, I had plenty of material to work with as I began this journey.

About Me

From a young age I’ve always been an adventurous soul, with a love of art and the ocean. I was a daredevil and things rarely scared me, which I’m sure gave my parents their fair share of gray hair and worry wrinkles!

I grew up on a farm in Ohio, which definitely had its pros and cons at the time. For as long as I can remember, my family has always had animals of some sort around us. We had family pugs, barn cats (and a couple indoor cats that my sister and I somehow wore down my dad enough to let us keep them), and my dad loved keeping his aquarium filled with all kinds of colorful fish! Animals definitely shaped me as a person growing up.

In a lot of ways, I feel like pets are greater beings than humans. They show you unconditional love and do not judge. It only made sense that I convinced my ex-husband (fiancé at the time) that we needed to get a dog back in November of 2017. Enter Rex.

Rex is probably the clumsiest and most anxious dog I’ve ever known. He must think he is 50 lbs. lighter than he is because he is always climbing into my or my husband’s laps. We take Rex with us on as many travels as we can. Rex often looks quite serious in his photographs, but don’t be fooled by his good modeling; Rex really is such a goofball without a camera on him!

I was unschooled during my high school years. Yes - unschooled - similar to homeschooling, but you also actively unlearn harmful and restrictive teachings from our society and education system. This was a hugely defining phase of my life. It was at this point that I started to embrace myself more.

I started my quest into Photography during my unschooling by taking classes at the local community college. I fell in love with the dark room instantly. Unfortunately, that part of Photography is pretty much a lost art at this point. I still miss the feeling and the smells of being in a dark room. I combine my love of Photography and traveling, taking photographs all over the world. I love to use subtle lines (such as roadways, paths, etc.) that lead your eye to dramatic landscapes.

Thank you so much for visiting my site. I truly hope you enjoy reading about our adventures, my photography, random hippie thoughts, and learn from any blunders I made along the way! If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to reach out. If you enjoy my musings, please subscribe & follow me on social media! I hope our paths cross at some point and I get to see your beautiful face through my lens.
